Shifting the assholes from the gutter

By Posted on 3 min read 944 views

You know when you’ve written a good email, because all the assholes come out of the gutter. My email about photos on LinkedIn yesterday, seemed to set them off, and my inbox got a handful of emails like:

F**k off you f**ktard”

These were surrounded by hundreds of responses from the folk who I’m actually writing for, with things like…

A few weeks ago I was working on an IM campaign. I took a couple of selfies and one looked like it would not be too bad if I moved the calendar on the wall out of it. My camera would not work. I fiddled with it for a while, then I went to a photographer 2 blocks away. She took  a photo and emailed it to me. The photo that she took made me look like a kindly intelligent man in his 50s or early 60s. The selfies that I had taken made me look like an red-faced heavy drinker in his late 70s or early 80s.For the $4 that she charged it was a hell of a deal.

The handful of folk who got offensive are already blacklisted from my mailing lists and products, they ain’t gonna go anywhere anyway.

But the guys who sent me the bombardment of emails, like the second one above, you get what I was saying about photos on LinkedIn. Using a professional photographer makes a massive difference, end-of. That could be the difference between you getting a contract and not, so I recommend you go for it.

And now I’ve cleansed my list of some douchebags, I’m going to give you some awesome information 🙂

For the next fifty days, I’m going to be providing you with one strategy each day to drive traffic to your website.

You’re not going to know whether it’s in the first or second daily email. It’s one of my wicked ways to make sure you open both 😉

Anyhoo… here is today’s…

Take Advantage of Influencers

Influencers, by definition, have a large following. And that’s going to be your quickest way to get traffic of people to your website who’ll love you.

The problem will be persuading an influencer to run a promotion for you.

Here’s my tips on how to do it:

1) Start by connecting with the influencer. One of the best ways to do this is using social media, start doing mentions, sharing their content etc… But don’t go over the top, you don’t want to go into the creepy zone. Once you’ve started to build a bit of a rapport with them, contact them through their support desk. Start by offering to guest post on their site, this needs to be done in a specific way (I shall explain more in another email). If you can meet them in person at an event, so much the better.

2) Once you have a rapport with the influencer, ask if they’d consider running a promotion to a giveaway event where you provide all the giveaways. Be prepared that these giveaways need to be very strong. I’m not talking about some ebooks here, I’m talking free tickets to leading events, consultations with leading names, access to leading software etc…

This can build both your brand and mailing list super-fast. However, it’s going to be one of the hardest things to get wrapped up. Don’t try and rush the influencer, you have to build a relationship with them first, they have to believe in what you’re doing, they have to think your content/products are of the quality they would be happy to talk about, and they need you to give them a whole bunch of things first.

But if you do that… you can end up with a killer mailing list in just one hit.

And everything is about the mailing list 😉

My personal way to build your mailing list, rapidly, without needing to put in the effort to connect with an influencer, is contained within the leafy pages of…
