It never used to be like this

Do you remember when you were young and all the adults seemed to say that “everything was better when they were young”.

This was usually followed by a roll of the yes from everyone in the room who was under eighteen.

Well… it’s happened.

This morning I said that everything used to be better!

I got a call from my mum to say that water was pouring out of her sink.

When we got there it turned out that the connections had dropped off the wast.

Why?

Because there’s a hot water tap on the sink and the pipes are made of plastic.

In their intelligence, the pipes under sinks are now all made of plastic. The wast pipe connects to the sink downpipe with a bit of rubber.

That’s it!

There’s no connecting thread to screw it on to, just a super-smooth piece of plastic and bit of rubber that you tighten on to it.

I mean… WTF?!

When you have heat (boiling water) on plastic… the plastic expands. Then the connectors slide off.

It’s GCSE physics.

When they made pipes from copper and brass this never happened.

But, because they only make them in plastic now (as far as I know), we’ve got to build a shelf in the cupboard under the sink specifically to hold the waste up so it can’t move down.

I mean seriously!

We have to build a shelf to hold a pipe up because they don’t have a way of attaching properly.

Hey ho.

Back to business. Have a great day.

Ciao,

Michael
