Hookers, cocaine and alcohol

I’m sending this email from a bar in Soho, in London. If you want hookers, cocaine or alcohol, it’s easily available here, if not legal. At least not the hookers and cocaine bit!

What’s interesting about that, is that even though something isn’t legal, it’s generally pretty easy to get your hands on if you want to.

And what does that tell you…

Market demand is EVERYTHING.

If there’s a demand for it, then you can buy it without too much difficulty.

For us that means…

If there’s a demand for it, then you can sell it pretty easily.

Which is why the first step in doing anything, is choosing the niche you want to work in.

And that’s where I work backwards to most folk, to most gooroo’s, to most marketers. They all tell you to go after the huge niches, the ones with the most demand. Which makes sense, considering a big demand means easier to sell.

But there’s a problem with that theory, something they’re not considering.

Human nature.

In my experience, we don’t really put much effort into something we don’t want to do. And the truth of the matter is… for most people, money isn’t a big enough motivator to get them to work really hard.

Yeah, we may want money to be a big enough motivator, but most of the time it just isn’t.

So choosing a niche simply because there’s a lot of demand, is going to mean failure for most people. And if you don’t believe me, go to any internet marketing forum, and you’ll see thousands of people struggling with failure because they’re trying be motivated by money.

For most people it just doesn’t work.

Which means, if you want to make a lot of money, you have to find something that motivates you more. And 99% of the time that is…

…something you love.

It could be reading comic books, scuba diving, making model trains, it really doesn’t matter. But it must be something you love.

The chances are, if you love it, then you’re already involved in those communities. If you love it, then you’ll already know the market inside out. If you love it, then you’ll already know what people are looking for. If you love it, then you’ll already know the demand in that niche.

By reversing your thought process to find something you love, you remove the need for all the research that most of the gooroos will tell you to do, And that’s because, you already know it. And you it better than any research will ever be able to tell you, because you’ve lived it.

So start by choosing something you love.

Then determine what people in that niche want.

Then make it and sell it to them.

Simple.
